Collective Grief
Collective grief is the universal grief accumulated by many, over time. It is the deep sadness we feel over loved ones passed on, losses we’ve experienced in relationship changes, events or celebrations that symbolize rites of passage that didn’t take place, painful life lessons we’ve had to endure, and the layers go on....
This past year has created, and brought to the surface the layers of grief accumulated over a lifetime, as well as a new sadness over the loss of life as we knew it pre-pandemic. It was the culmination of many griefs over a lifetime come to a full head over the past year. The pandemic not only created fresh grief, but unearthed layers of individual, collective and systemic grief. Grief that was buried, that we were unaware we had. Ancestral grief. Cultural grief. Historical grief all came together along with our own personal experiences of the past year.
The lesson becomes how we move through this time with love and Grace. Not only for ourselves, but for others. How we choose to work through our personal change matters. Let’s sit with that. Blessings to you all on this Holy day....
